The Overseas Work of Street Level

It is very important to us that our Christian faith reaches out beyond Menomonie, WI. We have endeavored to be a help abroad for years beginning with a small TB clinic in Asia with a branch of Steiger International. Today we are in the process of building our third church in Asia with a great ministry called Source Of Light based out of Georgia. Though, each foreign branch of Source Of Light is it's own sole entity, they are each an off-shoot of the US ministry.

• Since Street Level likes to go deep, what I mean is we seek to help in areas not tread upon; areas remote, we have built church buildings for tribal people in Asia. We were some of the first physical "white" people these had ever met. The the second building we funded is in an area where it stands as the first Christian church with in hundreds of miles...ever. Our third and most recent building is in process and is slated to be complete in 2007. Our group will be taking a ministry team over to dedicate the building and visit the prior two buildings and, of course, the lovely, faithful people of these areas.

• Our current focus is in the Philippines. Our home church (Jesus Fellowship) has constructed a mission center there called Shofar mission. Street Level has moved our missions support to this place where in future years we intend to buy land and build a Christian school for the mountain people to send their kids to not only learn the basics but to learn the Bible. We plan on taking teams from Street Level over there. Currently 2 of our members are living there for three months. Next year 3 will be going for three weeks.

• We never take large groups to these places as it can be dangerous to travel but we attempt a trip every other year and some advanced street level members get an opportunity to go on the team. These trips can get very difficult. Last trip entailed two 9-hour jeep rides with 9 full grown adults in the same jeep. It was 90 degrees and no air-conditioning in the jeep. Talk about cramped. At the end of one of the two very long 9 hour jeep rides no hotels were to be found with any vacancy. Believe me, we tried almost every hotel in that city. This lead to a fun slumber party in an biting-ant/mosquito filled local airport that closes during the overnight hours and is watched by machine-gun-armed military guards. It was an experience I will never forget.
